Park History Series Part 2
In 1900, Hennepin Avenue UMC, through the Methodist City Missionary and Church Extension Society, paid off the debt on our behalf.
Park History Series Part 1
They felt it was too far to commute to their Methodist church at 13th Ave and 10th St (2 miles away!), so they asked their pastor to start a Sunday School and Sunday afternoon preaching series in the back of a nearby drugstore. Later that year, the church was formally organized with 13 charter members and purchased two lots at the corner of Park Ave and 34th St. for $3000.
Seeing Christ in the Refugee
As we celebrate Latino heritage, we celebrate a spirit of perseverance that is deeply aligned with the gospel. We honor the contributions of those who have come to this nation seeking refuge and opportunity. And we are reminded specifically that our calling as Christians is to see the face and presence of our savior especially in refugees regardless of status. For more than 2000 years we have affirmed that a child and refugee is precisely how God chose to reveal himself to us.
Finding Peace in a Busy Fall
Their party made swift progress for about two days and the next morning the explorer found indigenous pack bearers sitting solemnly and making no preparations for further travel. When asked about the delay, a native guide explained that they were waiting; they would not move until their souls caught up with their bodies. If within your household communication is
Leadership at Park
At Park Avenue United Methodist Church, leadership isn’t just about titles; it’s about stewardship, service, and growing the gifts God has given each of us.
Life at Park: Worship Ministry
The Worship Ministry at Park brings together many voices and gifts to shape our Sunday morning worship. Alongside preaching and music, volunteers help lead responsive readings, intercessory prayer, and offering, creating a full and meaningful experience of worship.
Together in Grief and Hope

No Longer A Tourist
I not only share these values, but I also intentionally seek to be part of such faith communities that cultivate God’s will to “be done on earth as it is in heaven.” I share just a couple recent examples of how this sense of community is being fostered in and through our congregation.
Life at Park: Youth Ministry
This week, we’re sharing an update on Park Ave Youth—a place where young people are discovering God’s love, deepening their faith, and building lasting friendships.
Welcome Pastor Dan
For me, a paperweight received as a parting gift from my first parish captures this well. “A Pastor is one who speaks to your spirit, listens to your heart and understands what words can never say.”
Pride Sunday
So if you hear Christians refer to God with female pronouns, they are in good company—with a major biblical prophet, early followers of Jesus, and a medieval mystic whose theology was shaped through deep prayer and solitude.
Life At Park: Media Ministry
From the sanctuary to the live stream, they bring our worship to life and into the lives of those who can't be with us in person. They ensure that everyone, regardless of their location, can experience the love and belonging of Park. This ministry encompasses audio work, operating slides, filming for our online worship services, taking photos to document life at our church, and more.
A "Good Goodbye"........
And know that the leadership board continues to work with our district superintendent as we go through the process of getting an interim pastor in place, and then eventually, our new senior pastor. We will keep you informed all along the way through these periodic Board Updates in the weekly "News from Park Avenue" emails.
