Pedro Antonio Oliva
January 11, 1970 - June 22, 2026
Bloomington, MN - Pedro Oliva passed away on June 22, 2026, at the age of 56. As the son of a future Hall of Famer, Pedro seemed destined to follow in his father's footsteps until a knee injury cut his career short. At 18 years old, playing for the Elizabethton Twins, Pedro hit 7 home runs in just 150 at-bats. For those keeping track, his father hit 10 home runs in 249 at-bats during his rookie season in the minor leagues at age 22. Pedro never minded sharing that comparison.

Throughout much of his adult life, Pedro battled significant physical and mental health challenges, resulting in more hospital visits than he could count. Through it all, he maintained his sense of humor, often joking that he had more lives than a cat. Those who knew him understood that behind the joke was a man with remarkable resilience.

Pedro loved animals, especially dogs. Over the years, his affection for creatures great and small led to some memorable adventures, including keeping a pet ferret and, for a time, an alligator he was convinced he could raise in a bathtub. Whether wise or not, it was undeniably Pedro.

Life was not always easy for him. He faced many challenges as he struggled with addiction and untreated mental illness, but in the end, Pedro remained grateful for the people who loved him. His walls were covered with photographs of family, a daily reminder of what mattered most.

Pedro is survived by his parents, Tony and Gordette Oliva; brothers Damion (Daborra) Oliva and Ric (Cheryl) Oliva; sister Anita Oliva; nephews Yoel (Ada) Oliva, Alex Oliva, and Nic Oliva; niece Maddi Oliva; best friend Karol Gross; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

Pedro will be remembered for his humor, determination, love of animals, and devotion to his family and Faith. He faced life's challenges with courage and never stopped appreciating those who stood beside him. He will be deeply missed.
