Always unfinished

One of the deep truths of the journey of faith, hope, and love is this: It’s never really finished. There’s always more to learn, more to love, more to forgive, more to become.

One of the deep truths of the journey of faith, hope, and love is this: It’s never really finished.

There’s always more to learn, more to love, more to forgive, more to become.

And while that can feel a little overwhelming in a season of change, it’s also deeply reassuring. God isn’t done with us yet.

That’s been on my heart a lot lately—especially as Amy and I prepare for our own transition and as Park prepares to welcome a new pastor. There’s so much I love about Park Avenue—and so much we’ve done together. But also? There’s still so much unfolding. That’s the nature of the spiritual journey. And it’s the nature of the church. To be the body of Christ is to live in the unending unfolding of what has been accomplished and what is yet to be.

Yes, from the cross, Jesus said, “It is finished.” But that doesn’t mean we are.

To follow Jesus is to live in this beautiful in-between—where grace holds both what has been accomplished and what is still becoming. Where “It is finished” meets “I am making all things new.”

Lately, I’ve been holding onto this truth from Philippians 1:6— “The one who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion.”

The pressure’s not on us to tie everything up with a bow. The work is God’s—and always has been. Our job is to stay open. Faithful. Honest. Hopeful. To keep walking. Keep trusting. Keep showing up.

Even when the work feels unfinished—especially when it feels unfinished— we can rest in the promise that it’s not the end of the story.

We can still hear the Spirit whisper: “I’m not done with you yet.”

Much love,

Pastor Gregg
